Radiographer struck off by the HCPC following conviction

A radiographer has been struck off the HCPC Register following a criminal conviction.

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Mr Sergio Braz was convicted at Falkirk Sheriff Court for possessing indecent images.

The panel heard that as a result of the charges, Mr Braz has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of two years and is the subject of a supervision order, which includes a requirement that he is to have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 17.

Panel Chair Lubna Shuja commented: “The Panel is of the view that the nature of Mr Braz’s convictions are such that they are incompatible with ongoing registration, in that members of the public are likely to have serious concerns if a registered health professional who is in a position of trust was able to return to practice with convictions of this nature.

"The Panel has therefore concluded that given the nature and gravity of the convictions, a striking off order is the appropriate and proportionate sanction.”

Mr Braz was present and represented himself at the hearing.
