Radiographer suspended on grounds of lack of competence

A radiographer has been suspended from the HCPC Register for twelve months following a review of a Conditions of Practice Order imposed last year.

An HCPC panel heard that Mrs Blessing Chabvamurambo was handed the order last year on grounds of lack of competence whilst employed by Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

The panel heard that Mrs Chabvamurambo’s failings included:

  • removing a patient’s arm brace without noting a fracture had occurred recently
  • producing a chest X-ray which was not of diagnostic quality
  • failing to carry out appropriate identity checks resulting in the X-ray of an incorrect patient.

Panel Chair Jennifer Rogers commented: “The Panel was of the view that Mrs Chabvamurambo’s fitness to practise remains impaired.

“She has yet to demonstrate that she has remedied the failings that were identified by the previous panel.

“A finding of current impairment is required to protect patients, maintain confidence in the profession and to uphold proper standards of conduct and behaviour.”

Mrs Chabvamurambo was neither present nor represented at the hearing.
