Radiology, the new horizon

Richard Evans, SCoR Chief Executive, welcomed more than 300 delegates to the sixth National Conference for Radiology Managers with the theme this year, ‘Radiology, the new horizon: Equipping your workforce today to manage the demands of tomorrow’.

“Most people get into health work because they want to make a difference, and what you learn here today will make a big difference, make things better – for the service, you, the team, your department and of course, the patients,” he said.

He described the conference as a wonderful opportunity for attendees to meet people with similar problems and ideas. “This is an ideal event during which you can make contact with different people and share information,” said Richard, “as well as learn something new and find out what’s going on outside your own organisation.”

It’s often difficult to find the time to reflect on what you’re doing in your service and to find time to plan for the future, commented Richard. “Hopefully, today will provide you with some of the space you need.”

Neil Mesher, CEO of Philips UK and Ireland, also welcomed attendees to what he called a “national conference which goes from strength to strength every year.”

Neil acknowledged that there are, and will be, huge challenges in the system, but also great opportunities.

“The reality for us is that we must keep looking forward.”

He asked delegates to consider how Philips could support them to grow and develop the services that they will need in the years to come.

“We project that forward demand on imaging will grow by 50% in the next five years – just to diagnose cancers. Therefore, we have to work out how to deliver on the challenges of the future.

"We have to work together to deliver excellent services in the face of these challenges.”
