Nichola Smith has been appointed as the Society and College of Radiographers Student Membership Officer, a new role set up to serve the needs of student members.

The Student Membership Officer will take a lead on student engagement for the Society, including; organising students, developing the services offered to students, and promoting campaigns for students to get involved in.

Nichola comes from a trade union background, where she has spent the last 11 years working for a global union federation in a variety of roles, including campaigning with unions representing seafarers, dockers and other transport workers.

Her most recent role, organising fishers, took her to Thailand, where she assisted local and migrant workers to set up their own union.

Nichola commented: “I’m very happy to join the Society and I’m looking forward to working with radiography students in all four countries around the UK.

“I’d really like to hear from students about what they think about their engagement with the Society and what they’d like to see. I will be attending the Annual Student Conference, Annual Delegates Conference and UKRC this year, and it would be great to meet as many of you as possible.

“If you are unable to attend any of these events but would like to share your thoughts please get in touch with me via email: [email protected].”
