Therapeutic radiographers promote profession

The radiotherapy education team at the Royal Marsden have been hosting open afternoons for prospective radiographers to promote the profession and raise awareness of what radiographers do.

Hannah Austen, practice educator; Gemma Lees, lecturer practitioner; and Sarah Armstrong, professional development lead radiographer, hosted over 180 visitors in the radiotherapy departments and attended careers events at schools.

Hannah said “Our most recent event was an open afternoon for A-Level students where we offered hands-on sessions on a linac.

“We also hosted competitions to build a whole body out of CT scan slices and a Lego linac, which went down really well!”

The Society has been working with therapeutic radiographers across the UK to boost the profession and encourage more prospective students to get involved.
