Trust is celebrating AHPs Day in style

AHPs across Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust have got together with ambitious plans to celebrate the first annual AHPs Day on 15 October.

Rob Milner, consultant radiographer at Rotherham, says the aim is to promote each of the professions to the public, as well as raise awareness within AHPs and other staff about what each profession does.

There will be stands in the hospital foyer with AHP representatives answering questions and explaining their roles, as well as leaflets and posters on display in departments.
A local drama college is producing a video of patients who have been brought to the hospital following a road traffic accident and how each of the allied health professions care for them and help with their recovery. This will be shown on monitors throughout the trust and in GPs surgeries, as well as general footage showing the role of AHPs.

Social media will play an important part in Rotherham’s celebration, in addition to links with schools and colleges in the area to let students know about AHP careers.

Players from Championship football club Rotherham United are scheduled to visit the hospital on the day.

As well as radiographers, the AHPs at Rotherham include paramedics, operating department practitioners, dietitians, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, orthoptists, orthotists, and podiatrists.
