In January, the Radiography Group at the University of Leeds held its first national recruitment fair.

2nd and final year students were able to see the opportunities open to them upon graduation from 40 employees, in both diagnostic and therapeutic radiography.

The national event was designed and led by Helen Harcus, with the support of staff from the Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine (LICAMM), and the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds.

“The Leeds Radiography Group have held local recruitment fairs in previous years which were well received, but did not offer opportunities beyond the local region,” said Helen.

“This initiative by the Leeds Radiography Group is in response to the University’s strategic priority to enhance student employability opportunities.

“There is also a recognition that there is increased mobility within the student population and professional workforce, and the creation of the national event addressed this aspect.”

The event was advertised through social media and the Society of Radiographers, with 228 students signing up.

Students fed back that the event ‘’allowed them to consider a diverse range of opportunities without traveling in a final busy year of study’’.

And staff also praised the event, with one commentor stating it had ‘’raised the profile of their Trust, as well as being a good networking opportunity’’.

Such was the success of the event, The University will be hosting a second national recruitment fair in January 2018.
