The Scottish Terms Conditions Committee has confirmed union members across the region’s NHS have overwhelmingly accepted the Scottish Government’s pay offer.
Following the 93 per cent approval in response to the SoR’s consultation on acceptance of the award, radiographers in Scotland will see an increase to pay of 8 per cent over two years, 4.25 per cent from April 1 2025, and 3.75 per cent from April 1 2026.
The pay award increase will start from June 2025, and the back pay will be included in members’ July 2025 pay.
This deal is the first in the UK to include an 'inflation guarantee', so that awards should be at least one per cent higher than the Consumer Price Index inflation figure.
The society was the first union to call for such a mechanism to be introduced, as it believes this would help “close the public sector pay gap over time whilst positively supporting long term recruitment and retention”.
Chris Kennedy, the SoR’s Scottish National Officer said, “The two-year pay award with the inflation guarantee gives us a stable basis to progress further partnership discussions over the coming period. These will continue to include pay and also wider terms and conditions so that the offer for radiographers and other NHS employees is worthy of the work they do to support patients.
“There is a radiography workforce crisis across the UK, including in Scotland. Addressing this crisis is essential for reducing waiting lists and improving care for patients – 9 out of 10 of whom are supported by our members at different stages of their NHS pathway.
“So positive partnership working, involving the SoR and other unions and professional associations is a vital part of shaping a new and serious workforce plan that supports growing the radiography workforce.”
SoR members should look out for further details relating to the award and the developing Scottish Manifesto campaign over the coming weeks.
