The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is recruiting radiographers to serve on the adjudication panel for its Fitness to Practise Department.

Panels under the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service – which adjudicates on behalf of the council – hear and determine cases on behalf of the HCPC’s practice committees. These are the Investigating, Conduct and Competence, and Health Committees.

Panel members work together to consider information and evidence to reach well-reasoned and fair decisions on registrants’ fitness to practise cases. Members must provide clear, well-reasoned and consistent public decisions regarding any sanctions applied, or outcomes of registration appeals.

Knowledge, fairness and consistency

A range of panels are included in this duty, and members are expected to consider allegations of impairment of fitness to practise for individual registrants.

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge, fairness and consistency of application of the HCPC’s rules.

Specific tasks include:

  • Contributing to collaborative review of case papers to decide if a case should be referred to a full hearing.
  • Considering cases that have been referred to a full hearing and determining whether any action is required to protect the public.
  • Considering cases where a previous sanction has been applied to decide if that sanction remains appropriate, or to amend it.
  • Maintaining competence in panel member skills by attending HCPC-provided training and keeping up to date with changes in HCPC Practice Notes.
  • Proactively working with other panel members and HCPTS staff to ensure cases are completed in the allotted time.

Considering information from a range of sources and working with other hearings participants to make practical solutions that allow cases to complete.

Members of the panel can also act as members of a Registration Appeals Panel under article 37 of the Health and Social Work Professions Order 2001.

Panel members must commit around 10 days per year to ensure retention of skills and competencies.

Length and notice for hearings are variable, and can fit around diary commitments or working patterns.

All applications must be received by 23 June at 1pm to be considered.
