Set a reminder: members urged to renew their HCPC registrations

The three-month window to renew Health and Care Professions Council registrations opens soon

Published: 28 November 2025 HCPC

The Society of Radiographers is reminding members to renew their Health and Care Professions Council registrations as the renewal window is set to open.

To continue practising as a registered radiographer for the next two-year cycle, members must reapply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) within the three-month window between 1 December 2025 and 28 February 2026. The renewal process involves making a professional declaration and paying a fee.

Members are advised to ensure their email addresses and contact details are correct in advance of the deadline opening, to ensure they receive the renewal notification. These details can be updated on members’ existing HCPC online accounts.

In addition, members are encouraged to set a reminder and not to leave their application for readmission until the last minute.

Registrations can be renewed as soon as the window opens on 1 December.

HCPC renewal for sonographers

The SoR has also published advice for radiographers working in ultrasound, as ‘sonographer’ is not a HCPC protected title.

For sonographers, the SoR expects eligible members to register with the HCPC or another regulatory body, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The SoR has resources for sonographers who might have questions about the HCPC renewal process. In 2021, the trade union published a guide to HCPC renewals for sonographers, which is available here. A list of frequently asked questions about the HCPC renewal process for sonographers is also available here.

If in any doubt, queries can also be directed to the HCPC through the following webpage: Queries about registration.

What is the role of the HCPC?

The HCPC regulates 15 health and care professions within the UK. As well as radiographers, it regulates Occupational Therapists, Paramedics, Biomedical Scientists and more.

As part of its duty, the HCPC designates standards for education, training and practice and also maintains a register of professionals who must meet its standards.
