Jenny McKinstry, the secretary for the Association of Paediatric Radiographers (APR), is retiring from the profession. She has been a radiographer for 40 years.

Dr Penny Delf noted Jenny’s ‘invaluable contributions’ through her clinical practice at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and as a founding member and secretary for the APR since 1988.

Jenny was a member of the Northern Ireland Radiography Team of the Year in 2013 and was awarded Radiographer of the Year for Northern Ireland in 2015.

Penny commented, “Ever keen to optimise all aspects of current and emerging practice, Jenny has shared her knowledge and expertise by supporting undergraduate and post-registration learning and speaking regularly at national events.”

The importance of paediatric radiography and of staff motivation and education was promoted by Jenny throughout her career, and her motto was ‘If the staff are happy the patients will be too!’

Jenny has been a regular contributor to SCoR publications, sharing her expertise on paediatric imaging with members and was also a guest speaker and chair at UKRC on four occasions.

Penny finished by wishing Jenny the best in her retirement, “Her professionalism, insight, passion and sense of fun will be missed by the whole APR committee, and wider paediatric community.

“It has been an honour and pleasure to work with her and we wish her well in her retirement.”
