Latest edition of PHE Safer Radiotherapy out now

8 November, 2018
Radiotherapy

The latest instalment of Public Health England’s Safer Radiotherapy newsletter features Radiotherapy Error Reports from departments around the UK, a guest editorial and key information for RT professionals.

Further information, including a full version of the supplementary analysis (April to July 2018) is also now live on the website.

The figures show that of the RTEs reported for the period April to July 2018, 2856 reports (98.2%) were classified as minor radiation incidents, near misses or other non-conformances.

The issue also features a guest editorial by Dr Ed Smith, clinical director for protons; Imran Patel, lead physicist for protons and Hazel Pennington, operational lead for protons at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust, who talk about the safety considerations of opening a new proton centre.

Look out for the regular ‘error of the month’ section, this time focusing on the unintended overexposure of a patient during radiotherapy treatment in May 2017.
