Launch of the Dental and Maxillofacial Imaging Special Interest Group and call for members

SoR members involved in dental radiography are invited to participate in the SIG to share expertise and support across the field

Members of the Society of Radiographers are invited to register their interest in the formation of a new Dental and Maxillofacial Imaging Special Interest Group (SIG).

The SIG is designed to bring together colleagues involved in dental radiography across the UK, to support each other in the field and share expertise.

The group will provide a collaborative community of practice, offering opportunities for discussion, peer support and continuous professional development (CPD).

Promoting expertise and evidence-based standards

Dental radiography is one of the most frequently performed radiographic examinations in the UK, particularly in terms of the number of individual exposures and varied environments.

Despite this, many practitioners, particularly those acting as IR(ME)R operators in dental imaging, work without access to a wider professional network.

The proposed SIG aims to address this gap by creating an online platform for shared expertise, promoting evidence‑based standards, and supporting workforce development, including enhanced and advanced practice pathways.

Alongside community collaboration, discussion and peer support, the SIG aims to provide a central hub for shared learning across acute, community, and specialist settings, including the NHS, Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland (HSCNI), and private providers.

Contributing to the future

Members interested in joining or supporting the development of this SIG are encouraged to contact Cleavon Shand at [email protected] to register their interest.

Expressions of interest to help shape the group’s formation, define its aims and objectives, and contribute to future virtual meeting agendas are warmly welcomed.

SIGs are independent groups of members and non-members who are supported by the Society of Radiographers through promotion on the website.
