The Magnetic Resonance Advisory Group (MRAG) of the Society of Radiographers is pleased to launch the second MRI Safety Week Poster Competition, supporting MRI Safety Week, which takes place every July.

MRI Safety Week provides an important opportunity to promote safe MRI practice and raise awareness of the shared responsibility for safety among service users, staff, and referrers.

This year’s competition invites members to design a poster aligned with two possible themes:

  • Emergency?  Know the MRI Response pathway - raising awareness of correct actions during MRI specific emergencies - the right action, at the right time, in the right zone.
  • Creating a Safe MRI Experience – patient‑centred approaches that reduce risk and improve outcomes - Show how clear explanations, careful listening, and tailored support help keep patients and MRI environments safe.

The winning poster will be digitally distributed to SoR members as part of MRI Safety Week (July 2026) helping departments promote a positive culture of safety.

Promoting shared learning

Mafalda Sousa and Tamsin Taylor, chair and co‑chair of MRAG, said: “Building on the success of last year’s MRI Safety Week Poster Competition, we are delighted to invite members to take part again in 2026.

"This year’s themes highlight two essential pillars of MRI safety: supporting patients to reduce risk and knowing how to respond safely during MRI‑specific emergencies.

"Together, they reflect the knowledge, vigilance, and teamwork required to keep both service users and professionals safe. We hope this year’s competition continues to spark creativity, shared learning, and a strong culture of MRI safety.”
