NICE committee chairs – last chance to apply!

5 April, 2019

Are you a skilled and experienced leader, with a track record of chairing national or high profile multi-professional committees or working groups at a national level?

If so, you may be just the professional that NICE is looking to recruit as a chair on a guideline committee to work in collaboration with the Guideline Updates Team.

Applicants should have a commitment to evidence-based medicine or practice, ideally with experience of guideline development processes. Chairs are normally appointed for the duration of a specific guideline but could be appointed for a fixed term of up to three years to chair a series of topic specific committees.

Committees are expected to start work on guideline updates over the next year, including:

  • fractures (complex): assessment and management
  • TB
  • multiple sclerosis in adults: management
  • atopic eczema in under 12s
  • asthma: diagnosis, monitoring and chronic asthma management
  • obesity

According to NICE, “Chairing a guideline committee requires strong interpersonal and team-working skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

“An ability to communicate complex issues to differing audiences is a vital part of this role. Chairs are appointed for their expertise and skill in chairing groups, and although they may have some knowledge of the topic, this is not their primary role in the group. Specialist knowledge is provided by other committee members.”

More information about the work of the committees is available on the NICE website. The deadline for applications is Friday, 12 April 2019 at 5pm. Interviews will be held on Monday, 13 May 2019, at either NICE London or Manchester offices.

If you have any queries about the role please contact Rebecca Parsons.
