SoR members in Northern Ireland are in support of strike action over the delays to the 2026/27 pay award, a consultative ballot has found.
Earlier this month, the Society of Radiographers consulted members in Northern Ireland on whether they would back industrial action if the proposed 3.3 per cent pay award for this financial year continued to be delayed.
The ballot found that 89 per cent of respondents would be willing to take industrial action if the pay award recommended by the Pay Review Body (PRB) is not resolved.
The SoR will now prepare to formally ballot members on holding industrial action.
Cora Regan, SoR Northern Ireland national officer, said: “This is a clear demonstration of members’ frustration and growing determination to secure fair and timely pay. Healthcare professionals should not be expected to wait indefinitely for pay awards that have already been independently recommended.”
The pay award for NHS staff in Northern Ireland should have been made in April 2026, in line with pay changes for NHS staff in England and Wales. This follows the recommended 3.6 per cent pay award for all Health and Social Care staff in Northern Ireland for 2025/26, which was due to be introduced in April 2025, but was not paid until late February 2026.
More than 900 SoR members in Northern Ireland were consulted in the ballot, which closed on 22 October.
