With UKIO just around the corner, members of the SoR are being encouraged to attend the College of Radiographers’ Patient Voice session.

Being held on Wednesday 10 June – the final day of the UK Imaging and Oncology conference –  from 9.50-10.50am, the session will be hosted by Dr Emma Hyde, head of education and research at the SoR, and Trisha MacNeill, volunteer and lay member of the Patient Advisory Group.

Together, they will launch the refreshed ‘Partnership between Patients, Practitioners and the Public within Imaging and Radiotherapy services: Guiding Principles’ document.

Addressing impact and equality gaps

The guidance document, also known as the 4Ps, was first written in 2018, but has now been updated to reflect societal, regulatory and policy changes.

This includes the revised Health and Care Professions Council Standards of Proficiency for Radiographers in 2023, the introduction of the College of Radiographers Education & Career Framework in 2022, and NHS 10 Year Plan published in 2025.

Over the last year, members of the Patients Advisory Group worked closely with Emma, professional officer Lynda Johnson, and a group of volunteers from the SoR membership, to ensure the refreshed guidance not only reflects these key documents, but also that it addressed gaps identified by an equality impact assessment.

In the session, Emma and Trisha will provide an overview of what has changed in the guidance and why. In particular, Trisha will talk about her lived experience, and the importance of listening to patients.

All members of the radiographic workforce are welcome to join, whether in clinical practice, leadership, education or research roles. Student radiographers and apprentices, Assistant Practitioners and Support Workers, are particularly welcome to join us to find out more about the 4P’s.

The Patient Voice session is K3 on the UKIO programme. Find out more information online here.
