It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Hogg, advanced practitioner reporting radiographer, on May 23 2026.

Diane dedicated an extraordinary 40 years of service as a diagnostic radiographer within the trust. She qualified in 1985 and began her career at Sharoe Green Hospital where she progressed to the role of deputy superintendent radiographer. Following the closure of Sharoe Green in 2004, Diane relocated to the Royal Preston Hospital (RPH), where she was appointed superintendent radiographer.

During her tenure as superintendent, Diane led the X-ray department at RPH through a period of significant technological advancement and change. She played a key role in overseeing the transition to digital radiography systems, removing the reliance on hard copy imaging and greatly improving efficiency and workflow within radiographic practice.

'Lasting positive impact'

Diane was also one of the trust’s first reporting radiographers and was instrumental in the implementation of the HOT reporting system within the emergency department—an innovation that has had a lasting positive impact on patient diagnosis and outcomes.

Diane remained in her leadership role until her retirement in 2020, after which she returned to the department as an Advanced Practitioner Reporting Radiographer, allowing her to continue contributing her expertise while spending more time with her loved ones.

She will be fondly remembered as a dependable and compassionate colleague who always made time for others. Diane was an outstanding leader and a respected role model across radiology and the wider trust.

Known for her fairness and willingness to challenge where needed, she earned the trust and admiration of all who worked with her. Over the course of her career, she supported and mentored hundreds of radiographers, leaving a lasting legacy within the profession.

Diane will be deeply missed by her colleagues, friends, and all those whose careers and lives she influenced.

If you wish to contribute in remembrance of Diane, her family are collecting for St Catherine’s Hospice at this link.
