First results of initiative to free up movement of radiotherapy professionals in Europe

SoR welcomes SAFE EUROPE findings

Published: 09 October 2020 Radiotherapy

The SAFE EUROPE consortium has released the first results of its work to investigate and identify the gaps between the skills required by therapeutic radiographers to perform their duties compared with the education and training provided across Europe.

The completed work stream, of the ten that are planned, focuses on course characteristics and the level of competence of graduates, in tasks related to the linear accelerator.

The SoR is part of SAFE EUROPE (Safe And Free Exchange of Radiography Professionals across Europe), which is led by the University of Ulster and SoR member and educator Dr Sonyia McFadden.

SoR Director of Professional Policy Charlotte Beardmore said: ‘It is important for members and wider stakeholders to consider the findings given the current focus on International recruitment in the UK. The Society of Radiographers is pleased to be contributing to this work and we thank our UK representatives, Dr Helen McNair and Dr Ric Kline, who are supporting other work streams within this large project.’

A factsheet summarising the results so far can be downloaded below. For more information visit: safeeurope.eu or follow the project on facebook and twitter.
