The SoR’s internationally peer-reviewed journal Radiography has launched an Editorial Fellowship, available now for members of the society to apply.
This role will allow individuals in clinical, academic or joint roles to develop their research skills.
By providing training in editorial skills such as manuscript evaluation, the peer review process, manuscript production, and publication and journal outreach, the initiative aims to provide a pipeline of future International Advisory Board (IAB) members, Editorial Board members and editors for Radiography.
Professor Jonathan McNulty, editor in chief, Radiography said: "Working with the inaugural SoR and European Federation of Radiographer Societies [EFRS] Editorial Fellows since they were appointed in summer 2023 has been really positive. The fellowships have been a fantastic initiative and I am very grateful to the SoR and the EFRS for their support.
"With our inaugural fellows finishing their two year terms in the coming months, we are excited to be recruiting two new fellows who will work closely with the Radiography editorial team, be part of our editorial board, and also our wider international advisory board."
Fellows will receive training and mentorship from the editor in chief and associate editors during their fellowship period, and will be required to work on a project which may involve social media initiatives, undertaking audits to support journal activities, journal outreach, or research into aspects of publication science.
It is hoped such projects will lead to conference presentations and publications in Radiography.
Appointed for a two year term from July 2025, fellows will become members of the IAB and will be invited to join Editorial Board meetings as observers for the duration of their fellowship.
They will also receive an annual honorarium of £450 (€500), support to facilitate their attendance at international conferences, and will be expected to support journal activities.
Upon completion of the two-year fellowship, fellows will remain as a reviewer for the journal and may be invited to continue as a member of the IAB.
All applicants must complete an application form before Friday 9 May at 5pm BST, and email publisher Dawn Aggett ([email protected]) and copy in [email protected], attaching a cover letter addressed to the editor in chief, outlining their interest in and ambitions for this opportunity. They must also attach an up-to-date CV.
Applicants invited to interview must provide proof of membership to the SoR. All applicants should have a minimum of five-years’ experience (clinical, teaching, or research) since graduating as a radiographer.
Interviews for successful candidates will be held on 6 June, between 11.30am and 1.30pm BST.
Also announced is a fellowship for the European Federation of Radiographer Societies. However, UK-based applicants who are members of the SoR may only apply for the SoR Editorial Fellowship. Applicants with published papers as a primary or co-author in a peer-review journal, or with some experience of peer-reviewing, will be given preference.
