Editors for a special issue of the SoR’s internationally peer reviewed journal Radiography are asking colleagues to submit papers relating to research methods and innovative approaches to data.

The special issue, ‘Methodologies for Radiography Research’, aims to publish topics relating to the application of technologies (including AI) in research methods, data collection, sampling and analysis.

Submissions have a deadline of July 31, and will be edited by Professor Theo Akudjedu, Professor Julie J. Nightingale and Professor Adele Stewart-Lord. All submissions suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers.

'Rapidly evolving advances'

A spokesperson for the journal said: “Our practice is intrinsically linked to the rapidly evolving advances in technology that address the associated demands of patients and service users. Therefore, generating reliable research outcomes is necessary to advance Radiography practice.

“To progress practice and establish a credible evidence base, our community must recognise best practices and stay informed about emerging and innovative approaches in the selection of research methods and methodologies for addressing questions that enhance service delivery and patient care.”

Choosing and implementing rigorous researched methods is essential to the quality of the evidence base of medical imaging, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy and all areas of radiography practice, they added. Informed practice reform requires new knowledge, by reflecting on historical approaches while appreciating new research paradigms.

Data analysis and research methods

The ‘Methodologies for Radiography Research’ special issue aims to publish submissions that discuss novel data analysis pipelines across qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research and their application within radiography and/or multidisciplinary fields.

Exploration of technical experiences with new research methods, participatory research (relating to public and patient involvement and engagement), clinical trials and their implementation, and challenges to prevailing methodological assumptions in research are also welcome.

Interested parties may submit any time before 31 July. For inquiries about the appropriateness of contribution topics, please contact Theo Akudjedu at [email protected].

Radiography’s submission platform is now open, and can be found online here.

Upon editorial acceptance, articles will go into production immediately, and be published in the latest regular issue while being presented on the specific special issue webpage simultaneously.
