The Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) has published new resources to support changes to the Human Medicines Regulations (HMRs), which came into effect on 31 March/1 April 2026.
Key points for radiography teams:
- New SPS learning resources are now available to help healthcare professionals understand the regulatory changes.
- The changes introduce Vaccine Group Directions (VGDs) and update arrangements for vaccine supply and deployment.
- SPS has indicated that the changes are intended to simplify existing arrangements over time, although there is expected to be a period of adjustment for services and practitioners.
- A positive development for the profession is the inclusion of radiographers as Occupational Health Vaccinators (OHVs) under the new arrangements.
- The position regarding wider medicines mechanisms for diagnostic radiographers remains under consultation, and no final outcome has been communicated.
What this means for members
- Radiographers can play an important role in vaccination programmes. Members involved in delivering vaccines should ensure they are familiar with the latest SPS resources and recent regulatory changes affecting vaccine supply and administration.
- The SoR continues to monitor developments and contribute to relevant medicines consultations on behalf of the profession.
