Sarah Burn elected as vice president of the Society of Radiographers

Sarah, a Diagnostic Radiographer with more than 20 years of experience, says her priorities include championing a sustainable workforce

The Society of Radiographers has announced Diagnostic Radiographer Sarah Burn as its new vice president, following on from her successful election victory. 

Sarah, who works as principal Diagnostic Radiographer at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has more than 20 years of experience in the profession and has held leadership roles across multiple imaging modalities, including as an advanced practitioner. 

Sarah, the SoR’s UK Council member for Yorkshire and North Trent, stood in this year’s vice president election against Amanda Evans, council member for Wales.  

Following the election result, Sarah said: “I am honoured and humbled to have been elected vice president of the Society of Radiographers. Having spent more than 20 years in radiography, this is both a privilege and an opportunity to give back to a profession that has shaped my career.

“My priorities will be to listen to members and champion a sustainable workforce through investment in education, career development and recognition of advanced and specialist practice. I am committed to supporting retention, creating opportunities for future generations, and ensuring every member feels heard, valued and supported as we strengthen and future-proof our profession.” 

Sarah serves as vice president of the SoR from 1 July 2026 for one year, followed by one year as president-elect, before taking over the role of president in mid-2028. 

Voting in the SoR’s vice presidential election was open to the whole Society membership, with the election taking place from 26 May to 23 June 2026. 

Alongside Sarah’s inauguration as vice president, there were also several changes to the SoR’s UK Council positions. 

Tom Welton has stepped down as the council member for the North West region. Amanda Bell has replaced Amanda Evans in Wales. Mark Cadden steps into the role of Northern Ireland council member, replacingLaura McGirr, while Joanna McMath takes up the role of Midlands member, replacing Leah Marsden
