Perinatal mental health training survey

Health Education England seeking to transform training available to staff

Published: 03 June 2021 Sonography

HEE wants to better understand how to help health and care professionals develop their skills to provide perinatal mental health (PMH) services in line with the aspirations in the NHS Long Term Plan.

Given the vastly changed landscape over the Covid-19 pandemic, PMH services as well as services across the system have encountered fresh challenge and increased demand for PMH care.

This project aims to review current training offers, identify gaps in provision, highlight best practice training models, and develop a set of recommendations for improving this training, including in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

HEE will be developing an implementation plan and communication strategy to rapidly increase best practice PMH training programmes nationwide. In doing so, HEE aims to support the increase in the availability and quality of PMH care for mothers, fathers, partners and their families and carers in all clinical settings across England.
