SoR Pay Campaign: TUC Rally and Lobby of Parliament

21 August, 2017

Author: Paul Bromley, Regional Officer for London

Parliament Sq

As part of our ongoing campaign for a fair pay increase for NHS staff in 2018, we are drawing members’ attention to a Rally and Lobby of Parliament being organised by the TUC on Tuesday 17 October.

The lobby will take place from 2pm at the Palace of Westminster and will be targeted at Conservative MPs in the 40 most marginal constituencies.

The rally will now take place at 6.30pm in Parliament Square to show support by members of all public service trade unions for the ending of the 1% pay cap, which has seen SoR members’ pay devalue by 14% since 2010.

This will be preceeded by a march from Whitehall opposite Downing Street at 5.30pm.

Members who have written to their MP about the pay cap and who want to discuss the response with their member of parliament as part of the lobby should let us know by emailing Paul Bromley.

It may not be possible for all members to participate in the lobby but we will pass on details to the TUC who have identified the 40 MPs who will be the focus. Hopefully, any member who lives in the constituency of one of these 40 MPs will then be invited to participate.

Even if you do not live in one of the target constituencies, please do attend to show your support.

HOLD THE DATE 17 OCTOBER and please let me know no later than Sunday 1 October if you are attending. I will be with members at the House of Commons from 2pm.

The SoR hopes to have a strong presence with the SoR banner being proudly displayed.
