Call for Expressions of Interest: The role and efficacy of simulation in pre-registration education and training of Diagnostic Radiographers

SoR is looking to develop on its work in simulation

Published: 19 March 2024 SoR

Following the Society of Radiographers’ 2022 publication on The use of simulation in enhancing pre-registration education and training of Therapeutic Radiographers, the Society is now seeking to further support the development of this work within the diagnostic radiography profession.

The SoR invites expressions of interest to identify the role and efficacy of simulation in pre-registration education and training of Diagnostic Radiographers.

The outcomes of the project will be used to inform the development of profession-specific recommendations and/or resources for the diagnostic radiography workforce.

Expressions of interest are encouraged from individuals, organisations or a consortium that have demonstrable evidence and experience of work within this field.

The Society will consider expressions of interest up to a total of £50,000 (exc. VAT), which demonstrate good value for money and appropriate use of funding.

Project Overview

Project Title: The use of simulation in pre-registration education and training of Diagnostic Radiographers

Project Aim: Identify the role of simulation for diagnostic profession-specific training and determine the efficacy of simulation on learning gain.

Objectives:

  • For pre-registration diagnostic radiography programmes gain insight into current simulation provision.
  • Establish consensus opinion on the priority areas for simulation in the pre-registration education and training of Diagnostic Radiographers.
  • Assess the efficacy of simulation as a learning model and an understanding of learning gain or not.
  • Provide a simulation model, including key components of briefing and debriefing, and a template to improve mapping of simulation activities to learning outcomes within pre-registration diagnostic programmes.
  • Encourage continual evaluation and dissemination of simulation activities to enhance the current evidence base.

Suggested Deliverables:

  • Provide a final summary report of the findings, to include diagnostic specific recommendations for the role and efficacy of simulation in training.
  • Other suggestions welcomed.

Project timeline: May 2024 – 31January 2025

Please provide a summary document of no more than two A4 pages, to outline the following:

  • Relevant experience in relation to simulation in radiography or other relevant field
  • Proposed methodology
  • Suggested other deliverables
  • Required resources, project team, and costings
  • Project overview timeline
