Katie Cooper has been appointed as the SoR’s new executive director of professional policy.
Katie is an HCPC-registered Therapeutic Radiographer and SoR member with 22 years of experience spanning clinical practice, consultant-level radiography and national healthcare policy. She has specialised in gynaecological and prostate cancer and has also worked as an associate cancer clinical lead.
Currently head of multi-professional advancing practice at NHS England, Katie leads national strategy and provides clinical leadership and expert advice to regional and national teams, regulators and professional bodies on multi-professional advanced practice, workforce development, education and training.
'Professional credibility and strategic insight'
Charlotte Beardmore CBE, chief executive officer of the SoR, said: “Katie brings an exceptional combination of professional credibility, strategic insight and a deep commitment to the radiography profession.
“I am delighted that Katie will be joining our leadership team and taking on this important role at a pivotal time for the profession. Her experience of shaping national policy, developing the workforce and championing high standards of patient care will be invaluable as we continue to support and strengthen the radiographic profession.

'Clinical experience and national leadership'
Katie said: “I am excited to be joining the Society and College of Radiographers as the executive director of professional policy. As a Therapeutic Radiographer, I am proud to join the SCoR at such an important time for the profession.
“I look forward to bringing my clinical experience and national leadership in policy, workforce transformation and education and training to the role. My priority will be to listen to and advocate for members, strengthen professional standards and partnerships and ensure radiographers are recognised, supported and equipped to shape innovative, high-quality person-centred care.”
Katie has a strong record of translating national priorities into practical delivery, leading complex programmes and building high-performing, compassionate teams. She brings considerable expertise in professional policy, strategic planning, governance, assurance, risk management and financial stewardship, alongside a clear commitment to evidence-based practice, innovation and continuous improvement.
Across her career Katie has authored national guidance documents and is an accomplished national and international speaker on the development and implementation of advanced and consultant-level practice. She is committed to strengthening professional standards, supporting members and championing the contribution of the radiographic profession.
Katie begins her role with the SoR on 1 December 2026.
