An advanced practice radiographer is the joint recipient of a new award for allied health professionals and nurses.

Charlotte Harvey-Wright, therapeutic radiographer for sarcoma oncology at Cambridge University Hospitals has won the Tricia Moate Award. Dedicated to the memory of the former clinical nurse specialist for HIV by the charity Sarcoma UK, Tricia combined her experiences as a patient with professional knowledge to become an advocate for the sarcoma community.

Charlotte will be funded to attend the 2020 British Sarcoma Group Conference in Glasgow, visit another sarcoma service within the UK, and attend a study day. The charity will also support her to produce and present a poster at the Nursing (and AHPs) Sarcoma Forum stream at the 2021 conference.

The award was created to promote personal and professional development to benefit sarcoma patients, especially as the widespread nature of sarcoma centres nationally mean that professionals have few opportunities to network and collaborate.

Charlotte has established a radiographer-led on-treatment radiotherapy review clinic for her patients and introduced a radiographer-led telephone clinic to remotely assess and support patients in place of a face to face clinic appointment, six weeks post radiotherapy.

"I am delighted to have won the Tricia Moate Award," she said. "Especially because I believe there were numerous strong applications.

"The sponsorship will be extremely valuable. I have established some aspects of my role but further development is needed to increase the scope of practice. As well as the welcome contribution towards the costs of engaging with ongoing learning and development opportunities, I look forward to being able to ‘give back’ by presenting the poster.

The second winner of the inaugural award was Lucy Dean, senior physiotherapist and sarcoma lead at the Royal Marsden.
