Guidelines for Professional Ultrasound Practice: 7th edition now available

The Society of Radiographers (SoR) have worked with the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) to update our joint guidelines.

The Society of Radiographers and the British Medical Ultrasound Society continue to collaborate on this comprehensive guidance document to support ultrasound practice.

About the update 

After a major review in 2021, this seventh edition has only minor updates to ensure the most current links to documents were included at the time of writing.

The guidelines are to support departments provide safe, effective person-centred care. Evidence continues to evolve, so it is strongly recommended that the guidance within this document is reviewed in relation to local policy, current evidence and risk assessment.

The Guidelines are divided into a number of sections:

  • Introduction
  • Governance and safety
  • Education and accreditation
  • Introduction to the ultrasound examination
  • Ultrasound clinical examinations
  • Additional procedures
