A generous legacy left to the College of Radiographers from a retired radiographer has been ringfenced for sonography projects across funding schemes.
The legacy will fund up to three additional projects of up to £10,000, and will be awarded for sonography projects. Applications for this grant will be considered on a first come first served basis, with a maximum of ten applications being assessed per round.
More information on applying for this grant can be found online here.
Dr Emma Hyde, head of education and research at the SoR: “Research into sonography-related topics will be a key area of focus for the Society of Radiographers in 2026, thanks to two generous donations from our retired members. It will be exciting to see the impact that these donations, and the research projects that they fund, will have on clinical practice and practice education within sonography.”
The legacy will also support one additional project grant up to £25,000 with an ultrasound focus and will be offered as part of the CoR Doctoral Fellowship Grant.
To apply for the fellowship, applicants must be full members of the SoR and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or appropriate voluntary register and have submitted their applications before 5pm on Tuesday 7 April.
Further criteria and information about how to apply for this award is available via the online link here.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Tuesday 7 April.
If these awards are not fully made in the April 2026 round, they will be offered again in the October 2026 round, and further funding will be available to support additional awards in 2027.
A separate grant of £1,000 has also been secured for a research project based on the topic ‘The impact of sonographer practice educator implementation at regional, health board or network level’, after a donation from a retired sonographer. Further information isavailable online here.
