UKIO Attendance Grant

Are you attending this year’s UKIO in Liverpool and presenting a proffered paper for the first time?

If so, then you can apply for funding from the College of Radiographers UKIO Attendance Grant.

The grant will support:

  • Full conference registration;
  • Accommodation for the duration of the event;
  • Return second class rail travel to the conference;
  • Subsistence whilst at the event, in line with SoR policy.

Radiographers wishing to be considered for this grant must:

  • Be a member of the Society of Radiographers (SoR).
  • Hold current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Be working in the clinical setting (those with a split clinical/academic role will also be considered).
  • Be a first time proffered paper presenter at UKIO.
  • Be prepared to act as an ambassador for the Society and College of Radiographers during the conference visit and at all times in relation to the receipt and use of the grant.
  • Agree to sign and adhere to the terms of reference for representing the Society and College of Radiographers.
  • Agree to prepare an article for publication in Imaging and Therapy Practice on their experience, and where relevant to publish their research findings of their work in Radiography.

Those wishing to apply for the grant are required to submit their conference abstract outlining their work, including how the outcome(s) from their work is expected to impact on patient care.

This will be a competitive process and those scoring the highest with the review panel will be considered for funding.

Those wishing to apply for the grant are required to complete the application form and submit it by the first Monday of April each year (please note, you must enable macros when prompted to complete the form).

The panel will independently and anonymously assess each application against the criteria at the beginning of April, with the aim of notifying applicants of outcomes by the beginning of May.

Case study

Philip Mowlem, a reporting radiographer at Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, applied for and received the grant. He says, "I applied to promote a small piece of research I was due to publish. The money paid for my travel, accommodation, attendance at the conference and also the printing of a poster. It was a valuable experience which highlighted some of the pitfalls you can fall foul of. I shared my experience as an article in Synergy News.”
