  • SoR raises concerns about staff and patient safety after hospital visiting rules changed

    The Society of Radiographers have raised concerns with the health minister for Wales after revised visiting rules for hospitals have been published without formal consultation.

    The SoR are particularly apprehensive about the impact of opening up ultrasound scan appointments. Joint national guidance which was developed in partnership during the early weeks of the pandemic has been abandoned.

    SoR President Chris Kalinka, who is a radiography manager in Wales explains, “Covid-19 is still with us and will be for a long time to come.

  • Society responds to English hospitals "in urgent need of more scanners and staff to deal with backlog"

    The Guardian have reported that "more than half of NHS patients (in England) referred for imaging diagnostics are waiting six weeks or more."

    The story claims that "more than 600,000 people await CT, MRI and other scans amid the coronavirus crisis." with numbers "ballooning from 20,898 in May 2019 to 326,525 in May 2020."

  • Protecting radiology patients from Covid-19

    A newly published leaflet offers patients advice about the precautions imaging and interventional radiology teams are putting in place to protect them from Covid-19.

    Created by the Royal College of Radiologists and the SCoR, the guidance answers questions such as ‘How am I protected?’ and ‘What else do I need to know?’

  • SoR welcomes extension of Covid-19 National Industrial Relations Statement

    After direct input from the SoR and other unions, an updated version of the Covid-19 National Industrial Relations Statement has been agreed between NHS Employers and unions.

    The original statement was due to expire on 30 June. The new version builds positively on the first which was issued at the start of the pandemic.

  • Patient contact shielding guidance published

    Evidence-based guidance on why contact shielding for patients is no longer needed during diagnostic procedures has been published.

    The guidance document and accompanying patient leaflet explains why shielding to protect critical organs is not necessary for patients in general radiography, diagnostic and interventional fluoroscopy, CT, mammography, and dental radiography.
