Role responsibilities and duties

Image Acquisition & Quality

  • Perform mammography examinations to the highest standards. 
  • Select appropriate projections and exposures. 
  • Ensure optimal image quality. 
  • Adhere to departmental protocols. 
  • Document patient information and images. 
  • Utilize proper techniques for image acquisition. 
  • Verify patient identification and correct positioning.

Justification & Optimization

  • Justify mammography requests, especially for symptomatic and family history patients. 
  • Ensure requests provide sufficient clinical information. 
  • Optimize image quality, considering patient factors and equipment capabilities. 
  • Review doses and update DRLs (MPE).

Patient Care & Communication

  • Provide a positive and supportive experience for patients during the examination. 
  • Communicate clearly with patients about the procedure and results.
  • Promote breast awareness and encourage regular screening. 
  • Address patient concerns and questions.

Quality Control & Safety

  • Participate in equipment quality control and safety checks. 
  • Document all test parameters and report any equipment faults. 
  • Adhere to relevant regulations, such as Ionising Radiation Regulations. 
  • Maintain a safe and sterile environment for patients.

Image Interpretation & Reporting

  • Interpret mammogram images to identify abnormalities. 
  • Report findings accurately and timely. 
  • Adhere to local right result procedures. 
  • Follow guidelines for image reading.

Performance Monitoring & Auditing

  • Regularly audit performance and compare against peers and national standards. 
  • Track repeat examination data. 
  • Participate in departmental audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Professional Development

  • Maintain and improve skills through ongoing education and training. 
  • Stay current with best practices and advancements in mammography. 
  • Participate in continuing education to improve skills.
