SCoR Work the World Competition 2016/17 Entry Form

Competition prizes

One lucky student member of the Society and College of Radiographers will be exploring a new world of radiography abroad.

Organised in partnership with Work the World, the competition prize is an international elective placement of up to four weeks to be taken between 1 January and 31 December 2017.

Included is UK and overseas support, meals, accommodation, flights and professional indemnity insurance.

Other costs such as visas, travel insurance, fares to work, money for socialising, and immunisations are not included.

Placements can be taken in any one of eight locations in five countries. To ensure you are happy in your chosen location, the SCoR and WTW will help you decide which location best suits your needs, experiences and expectations. Click here to find out more about each destination.

The winner will be chosen on their commitment to taking full advantage of the opportunity the international elective placement offers and will not be based on academic merit.

The competition is open only to current student members of the Society of Radiographers who have been in membership for 12 months to the first day of the first week of the elective placement.

THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS 5pm 9 DECEMBER 2016.

How to enter

The detailed 'Rules and conditions of entry' and the Judging Criteria are at the foot of this form. Please read them carefully.

Entries to the SCoR Work the World Competition 2016 can only be made on this digital form. If you register and save the form, you can come back to it repeatedly before submitting the final version.

Your entry will consist of a 500-word personal statement which should include:

  •     What you hope to achieve from undertaking the elective placement;
  •     What you would be giving to the host country;
  •     The personal qualities that would enable you to deliver this;
  •     Which country you would like to take the elective in and why;
  •     Any previous experience you may have that might be relevant such as volunteering, travel, language skills, etc.
  •     How you will disseminate the knowledge you have gained to other students at your university and via the SoR. For example, by submitting an article to Synergy: Imaging and Therapy Practice, or writing a blog for StudentTalk, or giving a presentation at your university.

Please provide as much information as possible within the word limit. The more detail you provide as to why you should be chosen to take up an elective placement, the greater the chance you have of success.

We require one member of staff from your university who would be willing to support your entry and confirm that you would be able to:

  •     Accept and go on the placement;
  •     Write a blog;
  •     Make postings to the SoR Facebook page/on Twitter.

Entrants must receive the staff member’s permission before providing them as a reference. The judges will contact this person.

Competition entries must be returned by 5pm on 9 December 2016. Entries received after this time will not be considered.

Please make sure you are available to undertake the international elective placement between 1 January 2017 – 31 December 2017, if you should win.
