Speaker Biographies

• Dean Rogers

  Dean Rogers has been the Executive Director of Industrial Strategy & Member Relations at the Society of Radiographers since late 2019, leading the union arm of the SoR. Dean sits as a member of the TUC General Council, where he also acts as a General Council observer to their Race Relations Committee. He is also a member of the NHS Pension Scheme Board, and the separate Scheme Advisory Board. He is the SoR lead on the NHS Joint Council, made up of leaders from employers and staff representatives, and is a prominent voice on the NHS Social Partnership Forum. In all of these arenas, he has forged a reputation for pragmatic but constructive challenge, especially in relation to support for new professionals and international recruits joining the UK workforce; fair, safe and accessible pay and pension processes; and accountable leadership across all areas of health and social care. Dean also a Director of Unions21 – the research and think tank for unions with global reach, promoting excellence in member representation and engagement based upon understanding how work is changing. Dean is a recognised thought leader in union organisation and change.

• Doru Athinodoru

  Doru is an expert on Bullying and Stress. He worked for NEU for 14 years and provided stress workshops to reps and officers. He has two degrees, one in contemporary trade union studies and an MA in Employment law and industrial relations. Doru has won the IOSH Health and Safety Practitioner award for his work on stress. Doru has been working with Unison Hertfordshire Branch since August 2022 and he also does self employed work for Napo as a national officer.
  
  Doru has provided seminars and workshops for both union and non-union organisations and has worked with some of the World's leading experts on workplace stress, including Professor Cary Cooper, who is acknowledged as one of the words leading experts on stress.

• Katie Thompson

  Katie is the 88th president of the society and college of radiographers, trained as a diagnostic radiographer and then specialising in sonography, setting up a programme for the rotational doctors in her hospital to learn how to perform early pregnancy scanning, she has been a member of the SoR since being a student. She is an industrial relations representative for her radiology and breast care department, winning south west rep of the year in 2019, is chair of the south were reps committee, has been a member of DCC (delegate conference committee) before being elected to UK council in 2020 followed by Vice President in 2023. The focus of her presidential year is on the importance of introduction in the patient pathway 'hello my name is' and sonography regulation, to elevate the voice of radiographers and act upon the important issues that our current workforce are facing in this current climate.

• Leandre Archer

  Leandre is head of industrial relations for the SoR and was previously Northern Ireland national officer. Leandre trained and worked as a therapeutic radiographer before coming to the SoR. Leandre represents the SoR along with the Director of industrial relations Dean Rogers on the NHS Staff council and leads the flex campaign. Leandre has a keen interest in organising to ensure a greater influence and a stronger voice for the radiography profession as a whole.

• Peter Higgs

  Peter is the SoR South West Regional Officers and one of the team representing members at all stages of the HCPC fitness to practice proceedings.

• Ranjit O'Mahony

  Ranjit is a Senior Solicitor in the employment team. She has over 19 years' experience advising individuals and trade unions in all manner of employment tribunal claims including discrimination, unfair dismissal, whistleblowing, protective awards and TUPE. She deals with complex employment tribunal claims and regularly delivers training to unions and associations, both online and in person.

• Richard Pembridge

  I am the National Officer for HCPC, Legal and Representative Support for the Society of Radiographers. From 2006 to 2016, I was the Regional Officer for the South West and from 2016 to 2025, the Midlands Regional Officer. Before my employment as a full-time officer with the society, I began my career as an apprentice with British Rail. I qualified following a 4-year apprenticeship in mechanical and electrical engineering. I worked for 16 years (1990-2006) as a railway engineer. During that time, I began my involvement with trade unions. From 2002 to 2006, I worked on a self-employed basis for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers. My role involves advising and representing members in fitness to practice proceedings undertaken by the Health and Care Professions Council via the Health & Care Professions Tribunal Service. I have previously been the Trade Union Chair for the NHS South West and NHS West Midlands Strategic Partnership Forums. I also deliver industrial relations training for our lay representative structure.
