World Radiography Day: A call to action from SoR President Rachel Nolan

SoR campaign on Professionalism in Radiography aims to champion values and behaviours that strengthen the radiography profession

Ahead of World Radiography Day on 8 November, the Society of Radiographers (SoR) is encouraging members to support its Professionalism in Radiography campaign by sharing what professionalism means to them and the role it plays in delivering safe, effective and compassionate patient care.

The SoR’s Professionalism in Radiography campaign celebrates and promotes the values, behaviours and standards that underpin professional practice.

Launched earlier this year by Rachel Nolan, the 89th President of the SoR, the campaign encourages members of the radiography workforce to reflect on how professionalism influences their practice, supports positive workplace cultures and contributes to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Why professionalism matters

Speaking on the importance of the campaign, Rachel explains:

“Professionalism is relevant to everyone in the radiography workforce, regardless of role, experience or setting. It is reflected in the decisions we make, the way we communicate, how we support colleagues, and the care we provide to patients every day.

This World Radiography Day, I encourage all members to participate in the campaign.

As the global workforce celebrates our profession and our role in healthcare, we can use our collective voice to highlight how professionalism is central to safe, effective and compassionate radiographic practice

Together, we can champion the values and behaviours that strengthen our profession and shape the culture patients and colleagues experience every day”.

How can members get involved?

On 8 November and the days surrounding World Radiography Day, members are invited to share a personal reflection on:

  • What professionalism in radiography means to them
  • How they demonstrate professionalism in their day-to-day role.

To support this activity, the SoR has designed a Professional in Radiography/Sonography digital badge. Members can add their own photo to the badge frame and share it across social networks alongside their personal statement, to signify their support for the campaign.

Members can create their badge via the Professionalism in Radiography hub, where they will also find resources and information that can help individuals explore professional values.

Every member of the radiography workforce has a role to play in shaping the culture of the profession. By sharing their experiences and perspectives, members can help celebrate the values that define radiography, inspire others and showcase the collective impact of the profession across healthcare.
