Radiotherapy Skin Care Guidance Update
This session will provide a brief overview of the existing national radiotherapy skincare guidelines. The presentation will describe the guideline development process and the limitations identified and reported at the time of publication. This will be followed by explanation of the purpose and key insights from the recent national skin care survey reported in Radiography journal in April this year.The second part of the presentation will discuss the purpose and work of the Radiation Induced Skin Reactions (RISR) special interest group and suggest where we now need to focus our efforts to improve patient-centred skin care for radiation induced skin reactions, including priorities for research and service evaluation.

This session focuses on late effects Radiotherapy is an integral component of modern cancer care with 4 out of 10 people cured of cancer receiving radiotherapy treatment. Half of those diagnosed with cancer will live for at least 10 years, however 1 in 4 will have enduring physical or psychosocial effects of their cancer or its treatment.
Staff shortages are impacting on the ability of departments to utilise all available planning and treatment equipment capacity.
